Humor

I've been collecting jokes and stupid stories from a variety of mailing lists that I'm on, and I've decided to let you see them. I've got a selection of somewhat tame jokes, and some which could be considered a bit rude.  I've also got a longer series of letters about hotel soap, and The Top 100 Things I'd Do If I Ever Became An Evil Overlord.

  • Freefall - my FAVORITE online comic
  • Surf Rat & Spenser - another great comic
  • Sluggy Freelance - Worship the comic!
  • Kevin & Kell - a comic about the marriage between a carnivore (wolf) and a herbivore (rabbit)
  • The Darwin Awards - who on the net hasn't heard of these?
  • Space Moose - a very rude comic
  • The I hate Star Trek Page - of course the funniest part is reading the flames from the Trekkies.
  • The Cacophony Society World Headquarters - A strange group for strange people.

    Bizarre things (ok, more humor)

If I'm going to have a list of bizarre things, I'd better start with The Church of the SubGenius.  Eternal Salvation or Triple Your Money Back!  Buy a keychain when you're at the site - I made them.  They've got something to offend everyone.

While we're talking about "religion" I'm a minister of the Universal Life Church.  It's easy to become one, and it's free, just visit their web site.  You can look at my certificate if you're interested.

  • The Hour of Slack - SubGenius radio over the internet.
  • HyperDiscordia - One of the MANY Discordian sites.
  • The Principa Discordia - Another discordian site.
  • ErisWerks - ... and another.
  • The Ministry of Truth
  • Star Trek = Satan Trek - Poking fun at Star Trek and Fundamentalism at the same time!

    Television and Movies

Several years ago, I was reading an Amiga magazine, and it was talking about a show which was going to use Amigas to do all their special effects.  The creator of the show was on GEnie, and I joined into the conversation and had a lot of fun.  Some time after the pilot of Babylon 5 aired, some of us were joking around that since Joe Straczynski was "the creator", we should form a religion, and worship him.  After a while, people started wandering away from GEnie, and The First Amalgamated Church of Joe kind of faded away... Occasionally, I plug my name into a search engine, and see what web sites I appear on (it can be surprising).  The Church of Joe site (which no longer exists) came up in the list, and I saw that they blamed me solely for starting it.  I poked my head in, and wouldn't you know it, I was sainted on the spot.

  • Ain't it Cool News - Breaking news in the Film Industry
  • The Internet Movie Database - an incredible data base of movie information
  • The View Askew-niverse - Kevin Smith, director of Clerks, Mallrats, Chasing Amy, Dogma
  • Mr. Cranky - reviews the movies, and tells you how bad they are
  • Doctor Who - one of my friends sites about the series (he himself appears in a Dr. Who novel).

    Work

I made they key chains when I worked at Levy's Leathers.  I was their art department when I worked there.  They mostly make guitar straps and bags.  I also made their original web site, It's been updated since then - I'm not responsible for the horrid animated .gifs.

One summer I worked at the Freshwater Institue Library (Department of Fisheries and Oceans). While I was there, I actually worked on a paper that got published... Ok, so I just organized everything, but my name got on it:

Marshall, K.E., M. Layton and C. Stobbe. 1990. A Bibliography of the Lake Trout, Salvelinus Namaycush (Walbaum), 1984 through 1990. Canadian technical report of fisheries and aquatic sciences. 1749. 29 p. Issued by Dept. of Fisheries and Oceans, Freshwater Institute, 501 University Crescent, Winnipeg, Man. R3T 2N6.
